School Introduction

(一)、Background Established in 2000, Dakan Elementary School has been the first school to be built in green architect concept. Located in northern Taiwan, We stand at the left bank of Damsui River estruary, face to the Taiwan Strait, close to the Taipei Seaport, back behind are Guanyin Mountains.
As in the organizational operation , now we have 60 teachers and staff, more than 500 pupils registered, and provide kindergarten service for preschool kids of age 3 to 5 years to share the child-care responsibilities for double-income families of our community.
We also accommodate pupils of special educational needs.
(二)、 Curriculum Characters
1. Community Service Learning
Led and instructed by our teachers, Our pupils have periodical visits to two non-profit organizations in our community (Catholic Home for the Elderly, and Bali Ai-Hsin Home for Persons with Disability) to start their life service experience from the community citizens in need.
2. Sports Clubs
Multiple choices of sports clubs such as baseball, field and track, skates, Taekwondo are provided for pupils.
3. Art Classes
Plenty art classes as ukulele(G5-G6), percussion band(G3-G4), engraving arts(G3-G6), physical performance(G3-G6), are covered in the normal curriculum.
4.Cultual and Ecological Protection
As that Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeolog (http://www.sshm.ntpc.gov.tw/), Waziwei Conservation Area, Mangrove Park are closeby, it’s quite natural for teachers to bring these resources into the curriculum. Theme-based courses of cultual and ecological protection are designed into six different activities for six grades, aims to teach pupils how to live with and love the land we are bestowed.
5.Health Promotion Project
Brushing teeth immediately after breakfast and lunch has long been applied to in our school. In allignment with City Government promotion project, students has been taught to brush teeth in Beth’s method, and use floss then after. Such constant efforts won us a braze prize of International Health Promotion Certification this year.
6. International Education
English courses are started from G1, in interactive and communicative way. International volunteers were invited to give English lessons and cultural exchange. Pupils were highly inspired and had fun in conversation with them.

 (三)、 Architectual Shots
At the first glance of our school building, you will be impressed by its minimalist style; walking into it spacious corridor, the illuminated classrooms, and children’s laughter around every corner will make you very pleasant. Other than this, a water recycling system for rainfall collection and reusing in plant watering and toilet flushing saves us utility cost as well as earth resource. Our green fences are short and friendly, welcoming our community dwellers. The power of the night lighting system generated by wind and solar is also a plus facilitaitng people to take exercises in the night time.
